Norwegian ship design company Breeze Ship Design has been selected to provide a design of two new hybrid multipurpose offshore supply vessels (MPSVs) ordered by the U.S. shipowner SEACOR Marine.
Breeze Ship Design received the contract from China’s Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding which will construct the ships in question.
Specifically, the Z 4423 MPSV design is an 88-meter-long hybrid vessel equipped with medium-speed diesel engines and an integrated battery energy storage system for higher fuel efficiency and lower running costs.
The MPSVs will each be 4,650 dwt, with a 1,000 square meter work deck and accommodation for 60 people – providing a flexible operational solution.
“We have really enjoyed close co-operation with SEACOR Marine during the initial stage of this project, and we’ve also had a long and successful relationship with Fujian Mawei,” Tommy Hivand , CCO of Breeze Ship Design, commented.
“These will be the fourth and fifth vessels the yard builds with our Z 4423 MPSV design, so we are excited to see the vessels being delivered fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.”
Earlier this month, SEACOR Marine Holdings, a provider of marine and support transportation services to offshore energy facilities, revealed it entered into a new senior secured term loan of up to $391 million and separate agreements to build the two platform supply vessels for a contract price of $41 million per vessel.
The new credit facility will, among other things, provide up to $41 million in borrowings to finance up to 50% of the shipbuilding contracts for the abovementioned newbuilds.
In related news, Breeze Ship Design was also hired in September 2024 to provide a design for two battery hybrid multipurpose offshore supply vessels (MPSVs) ordered by Greek shipowner Capital Offshore Management.
The two Greek units will be built at the same shipyard and will feature the same Z 4423 design as SEACOR’s newbuilds.
