Chinese shipyard Dalian Shipbuilding (DSIC), a part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has ordered the tank design of two LNG carriers from French LNG containment specialist GTT.
Dalian Shipbuilding specifically ordered the tank design of two LNG carriers on behalf of CMES LNG Carrier Investment. This is the first project to construct an LNG carrier at DSIC.
To remind, DSIC and China Shipbuilding Trading, both subsidiaries of CSSC, and China Merchants Energy Shipping, an affiliate of China Merchants Group, signed a deal on the construction and operation of large-scale LNG ships in March. Besides these two LNGCs, the agreement also includes an option for two additional vessels.
The two LNG carriers will have a total LNG tank capacity of 175,000 cbm each. The will feature the Mark III Flex membrane containment system.
The shipyard will deliver the vessels in the third quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
